Two tips to keep writing even when you’re going crazy.
The cursor is blinking derisively. As I sit on the edge of the reservoir of my mind, I am convinced that something has happened. You almost had it. But now that is gone.
Even worse, your mind seems to be on strike.
I understand this feeling very well. My heart prefers to go on strike more often than London Underground drivers.
But my personal business wouldn’t exist without my writing. I have written and published books in 3+ niches on Amazon KDP and Audible. I am usually working on books of medium or high content all the time.
I love writing, but my mind isn’t naturally consistent. So writing every day is something I have to learn.
So far I’ve found two tricks that work every time. Steal them:
My heart has more moods than chameleon colors.
These swings are a nightmare. The topic I was passionate about yesterday couldn’t have been any more flat today. There’s no way I can write about it, and even if I tried, it would just turn out to be garbage.
So the way I align my thinking is a lifesaver. How does it work?
I have multiple writing projects going on at the same time.
Ideally, these projects should be like fire and water. They should differ in topic, genre, niche, style, or which part of your writing brain needs to be turned on with each piece of writing.
This allows you to choose every day whether a project aligns with your current mindset, the project you’re excited to write, or the project you’re most comfortable with in less ideal scenarios.
The list doesn’t have to be so extensive that you feel anxious. First, it’s enough to have three or so diverse open projects to choose from when you need them.
That way, you’ll always be able to write no matter what topic your mind is racing through at the moment.
