We recently chatted with Flipper University alum Steve Frost and were excited to share how he makes $2,000 a month with his Flipper business.
How did you get into flipping gigs?
Steve said he had had an eBay account for years and was selling things online, but started looking more seriously in 2021 or 2022. Steve is a veteran and is disabled in the military. He was looking for something that would allow him to make a little money while taking care of his children.
He watched some of our YouTube videos and found Flipper University. He said flipping is something he can do without too much strenuous exercise after being injured in the military, so it suits him well.
Is this part time or full time?
Steve says he worked part-time for a while, but then took a break from flipping. He’s back on track and steadily increasing his sales. Taking a break helped him feel energized.
How did you get into Flipper University?
When I was googling resale videos, I came across the Flea Market Flipper video. Although this was packaged, Steve thought it was great to see the information being shared freely. Free He Market He realized that there was a lot of useful information available for free on Flipper, so Steve decided to dive into Flipper University to see what else the program had to offer.
Steve says this program was the best way to get into the world of flipping as it gave him the confidence to start flipping on the side.
He said he knew there was money involved in the program, but realized he could get that money back if he did it right once or twice. After taking the course, he flipped his cooktop and made back almost twice what Flipper University cost him.
How many months does it take to resell on average?
Steve says they usually average between $1,500 and $2,000. It’s winter in New York, where he lives, so it can be slow at this time of year when there aren’t many yard sales. You have to be creative with where you source and what you buy. Steve is confident in the product he sells as long as he has a 30% profit margin on that product.
Do you only sell on eBay?
Steve primarily sells on eBay, but also uses Mercari and sometimes Facebook Marketplace for local items he doesn’t want to deal with shipping. But now that I’m trained to ship products, I don’t care about that. An item may sell better on one platform than another. For example, he says, clothing may sell better on Poshmark, but antiques and collectibles usually sell better on eBay. He says it depends on what you’re selling and where your customer base is.
What has life been like since you took the plunge at Flipper University?
Steve says he enjoys the flipping business. He tells people it’s fun to know that you can go to a thrift store and find something unique that probably no one else in the country can afford. He can connect to special products at a fair price while making a profit.
Do you always enjoy treasure hunting?
Steve likes going to flea markets in New York. He likes finding pieces of history, American history, and world history. He sometimes has a hard time letting go of unique finds.
What is your niche?
Steve focuses primarily on collectibles. He said when competing with Amazon, you have to find things that Amazon doesn’t sell. Most people looking to buy a new product go to Amazon first and don’t check Google. If you can’t find it there, branch out and look on Google.
Lately, he’s been interested in the niche of 1990s and 2000s nostalgia-type items, but the challenge is that sometimes you want to save the items you find.
If you can get something that isn’t on Amazon, buyers will almost certainly come to you. That’s why Steve always does his promotions at 2%. Because when people Google it or search for something, it shows up there.
Who would you recommend Flipper University to?
Steve said anyone could do it. He is perfect for high school and college students trying to figure out what they want to do. They can learn a skill and utilize it for the rest of their lives. It’s perfect for stay-at-home moms and people who have a lot of time on their hands and are tired of doing the same thing over and over again.
What would you say to someone on the fence about flipping?
“What do you have to lose?” Steve asked. I understand that it costs more, but you can make up for it with a few sales. Steve didn’t know if he could do this, but he said following the course and starting small helped him develop the confidence to list. And you start to realize that you can resell this. This program outlines small steps to grow your confidence and business.
If you don’t want to work for someone else or want to find something to make extra money for your family, flipping is the way to go.
