Fabian Snauwald is the founder of Griglish, and he describes Griglish as follows:
A new way to learn languages by talking to AI.
Just speak into the microphone and enjoy a conversation with your language teacher. Or you can role-play real-life situations, such as buying croissants at a bakery.
📝 In a recent interview, Fabian revealed…
Exactly 16 months have passed and the revenue is 8,000 euros [almost $9K per month].
But this isn’t his first rodeo…
I dropped out of college to play video games. I then took a low-paying IT job and started producing e-books on the side. After that, for about five years, my monthly income ranged from $30 to $500.
(I think this is an e-book that I found via.)
after that…
I created several books and courses that I was able to attend full time. But things got really interesting after I created a web app for learning English. In total he earned more than 560,000 euros…but this is over his nine years.
560,000 euros over 9 years = 62,000 euros / $68,000 per year 💰
That app is this: Click & Speak
Mr. Fabian’s explanation (source)…
Learn the top 5,000 words of American English with correct pronunciation and grammar through memorable and meaningful sentences.
(Can you build the same app in another language? 🤔)
Fabian taught himself to code along the way…
When I was 16, I was creating HTML pages with a little bit of vanilla JavaScript. And I learned everything on the fly. Have a question? Just Google it. Or use ChatGPT/Cursor.
How he built Gliglish…
It took us two days to create a basic prototype. It didn’t really work, but it was enough to give me a sense that it was working. Then it took him 37 days to get it working…
I was broke, so I foolishly started my business two days before Christmas.
We publish a newsletter for French people studying English. I always use it to launch products. It’s my financial safety net.
This seems to be his newsletter and has 49,000 subscribers.
Fabian has obviously grown that audience over the years, and now it’s like a secret weapon for him when releasing new products 💪
But when he launched Gliglish…
People were excited about it, but the product still wasn’t working all that well. But it was clear that we were still working on it. Not exactly a home run, as he only made 615 euros in his first 30 days.
He kept trying…
When we launched Product Hunt, we had zero sales. I’ve been thinking about getting started, but all my efforts and worries have been in vain.
In this newsletter, we’ve shared many stories of how Product Hunt has worked for us. This shows you never know what will work. You have to keep trying different things until you find something 🎯
And that’s what Fabian did…
After I posted on HackerNews, people started talking about Gliglish. I was second to him on the site for a moment.
Then AI on TikTok and Instagram started getting traffic from AI directories and people and that’s when it started getting talked about.
This brings his monthly income to $9,000 with plenty of room for growth 📈
Fabian’s advice to others…
Repeat again… It took 17 years to ship 9 products, that’s wrong. If I had iterated faster (instead of dragging for a long time on and between projects) I would have gotten better results sooner.
